We’re thrilled to announce the official launch of The Safety Superhero Academy, an exciting initiative aimed at teaching young children about the importance of safety in a fun and engaging way. The Academy will focus on Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Key Stage 1 & 2 children, using storytelling, role models, and hands-on activities to make safety accessible and exciting.
The Safety Superhero Academy was founded by Bethany Holroyd, a chartered safety professional and children’s author, after recognising the gap in early safety education. Inspired by her own journey working in the construction industry, Bethany wanted to create an engaging way to teach children about safety while introducing them to careers in STEM. A key part of the Academy’s mission is to showcase diverse role models, helping children see that safety and STEM careers are for everyone. The Safety Superhero book was the first step in this mission - showing children that safety is about more than rules, but about care, responsibility, and looking out for others. From there, the Academy was born, bringing the book’s lessons to life in classrooms and communities. In the long term, the Academy aims to transform the perception of safety by making it engaging, relevant, and inspiring for the next generation.
We’re especially excited to share that Arco is our official launch sponsor! Through their generous support, Arco has provided The Safety Superhero Academy with safety kit bags that will be used in every session we deliver going forwards. These bags will help children get hands-on experience with personal protective equipment (PPE), making learning about safety interactive and memorable.
Bethany Holroyd, Director of The Safety Superhero Academy, said: “Building The Safety Superhero Academy over the last six months has been a labour of love, driven by my deep belief in its mission. Having worked in safety for years, I’ve seen firsthand how early education can shape lifelong attitudes towards risk and responsibility. I wanted to create something that makes safety engaging, not intimidating - something that empowers children to see themselves as capable, responsible, and even future safety leaders. Thanks to Arco’s support, we can bring this vision to life in more schools, helping children build confidence in making safe choices that will stay with them for years to come.”
In addition to the kit bags, Arco has also funded a number of sessions for schools across Yorkshire, ensuring that even more children have the opportunity to participate in the Academy and learn about safety. This sponsorship is helping us bring essential safety education to schools and communities, making a lasting impact on the next generation.
Isabel Spence, Marketing Director at Arco, said: “At Arco, we believe that safety starts with education, and we are proud to support The Safety Superhero Academy to equip children with essential safety knowledge from an early age. Research has shown that those who understand the why behind safety practices are more likely to adopt them throughout their lives. By funding this initiative, we are not only providing children with books and kits but also fostering a culture of safety and awareness that will benefit them long-term. We hope this initiative will inspire the future of safety leaders in the workplace for years to come.”
Stay tuned for more updates as we roll out this incredible program, and join us in celebrating our launch with Arco as we work together to make safety a priority for young learners across the region!
